Or can it? If you have the knowhow, greasy, oily stains aren’t as difficult to get out as you might think – and you don’t need any special stain removers either.

- Lay the garment on a light coloured towel
- Dip an old (but clean) toothbrush or scrubbing brush into some washing up liquid. Apply this directly to the stain using a gentle circular scrubbing motion. Try to work from the outside to the middle so it doesn’t spread.
- Put the garment in the washing machine and wash it on the highest temperature recommended on the label.
- Check the stain is gone before it’s dry – if not, repeat the process.
